After
retiring from a career in Education, award winning artist Joan Owens started oil
painting nine years ago as a hobby. She has taken classes from the Sahli
School of Art, Foothills Art Center, Center for the Arts Evergreen and the Art
Students League of Denver.
Sparkling light and rich, joyous colors are characteristic
of the artist’s oil paintings. Her work includes still life, landscape and
wildlife subjects. Many of her landscapes and wildlife paintings are based on
scenes from around her Evergreen, Colorado home.
Joan’s still life entry won Best of Category in her very
first show at the Foothills Art Center. Her painting, “Looking West,” was based
on a view from the patio at her home. It was selected as the “Mountain
Connection” cover art for their May 2010 edition.
The artist’s work has been shown at the Foothills Art
Center and Mount Vernon Country Club in Golden, CO; at the Center for the Arts
Evergreen, Rotary Gallery and Shadow Mountain Gallery in Evergreen, CO; and at
Alpine Gallery in Denver, CO.
Joan is a member of Artists With Altitude, the Art Students
League Denver and the Evergreen Artists’ Association.
Joan credits her supportive family and her friends in
Artists With Altitude for encouraging her to develop her hobby into a
profession. |
